Fantastic Fight Back by Romain Grosjean and Dams

After getting off to a dreadful start for DAMS, the Monaco weekend has finished on a much higher note with Romain Grosjean’s podium finish on Saturday. He has also retaken the championship lead.

Grosjean started from fifth place on the grid and made a perfect getaway, which put him in third spot on the first lap. The DAMS driver had a fault-free race and climbed onto the podium. With the help of the point for the fastest lap in the race he is back in the lead in the GP2 Championship.

Pal Varhaug’s nightmare weekend continued. He stalled on the grid and then lost a lap when he had to pit for a minor problem, which condemned him to racing at the back of the field.

Loïc David, General Manager: “Finally, this weekend hasn’t been as disastrous as we feared after qualifying. Congratulations to the whole team for their preparation of the cars. Romain kept a cool head and bagged the points for third place. Bravo to him. I’d also like to encourage Pal who had a very difficult weekend. Things will be better in the next round.”

Romain Grosjean: P3

“I’m very happy to be on the podium here in Monaco. The car was really quick, and I’d like to thank the team for the great job they did. I was undoubtedly faster than the cars in front of me, but the championship was the important thing. These points will certainly prove crucial in the fight for the title.”

Pal Varhaug: P22

“A character-building weekend! The second race got off to a bad start as I had an incident that cost me a lap. But looking at the lap times has reassured me as my pace was good. I hope to have more success in Valencia.”
